The businessman | Fine Art print | Limited edition | code LD032
The businessman is a thought-provoking exploration of the complex relationship between professional life and personal identity, drawing inspiration from the Japanese cultural phenomenon of Otaku.
In Japanese society, Otaku refers to an individual’s deep, obsessive passion for a subject or interest beyond the boundaries of their conventional professional sphere. This artwork is part of the larger photography project, I am your mirror, which delves into the hidden layers of personal identity, societal expectations, and the delicate tension between conformity and self-expression. In this piece, the subject desired to be represented through his passion for Shibari.
Derived from the Japanese word meaning "to tie," Shibari is an intricate and artistic form of rope work. Here, it serves as a powerful visual metaphor for the constraints and feelings of powerlessness imposed by the rigid demands of the corporate world. "The Businessman" reflects the life of Japanese salarymen, who often dedicate their entire careers to a single employer, bound by strict professional norms and limited opportunities for self-expression.
Through the lens of Shibari, the artwork highlights the tension between the public persona and the private self, creating a poignant commentary on the universal struggle to balance societal roles with personal freedom.
